Minister for Education and Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, has pledged to take over the educational sponsorship of 47 medical students previously funded by the late Tamale Central MP and Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The announcement came on Tuesday, August 12, during the Third Day Funeral Rites (Adua) in Tamale, where the students paid tribute to Dr. Murtala, describing him as a selfless leader who championed education and youth welfare.
They appealed to government, charitable organisations, and individuals to continue providing support for their training.
Responding, Mr. Iddrisu assured them that their studies would not be disrupted.
“I am ready to take up this responsibility to ensure your education continues uninterrupted,” he said.
Dr. Murtala Muhammed was among eight people who died on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in a forested area at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofrom District of the Ashanti Region.
