The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared a general amnesty for all members who were either suspended or facing disciplinary proceedings within the party.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 16, 2025, and signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, the party said the decision was unanimously approved at an emergency National Council meeting on July 25, 2025, as part of efforts to foster unity and reconciliation.
“We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members,” the statement read.
The directive also clarified that members who had forfeited their membership must formally reapply for reinstatement at the party’s national secretariat. However, reinstated members will not be eligible to contest in any internal party elections for the next two years.
The party cautioned regional and constituency executives to follow due process when handling disciplinary cases, warning against arbitrary suspensions that could undermine internal cohesion.
The statement emphasized that the amnesty reflects the NPP’s commitment to reconciliation and party cohesion, stressing the need to strengthen unity as the party prepares for upcoming political engagements.
“The NPP remains committed to building bridges, fostering harmony, and ensuring that all members work together in the collective interest of the party,” the statement added.
