The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has cut sod for the construction of a new ward complex at the Police Hospital in Accra.
The ceremony, held on Monday, August 11, 2025, was attended by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and other senior officers.
The facility will provide a modern, dedicated space for serving police personnel, their families, and retired officers requiring medical care. It forms part of ongoing efforts by the Police Administration to improve welfare and healthcare access for the police community.

Mr. Yohuno revealed that the idea for the project emerged after a recent visit to an ailing colleague at the hospital, which underscored the urgent need for more ward space.
“The new ward will not only support officers currently in service but also cater to retired personnel, many of whom face more severe health challenges,” the IGP said. “It will also be open to the extended police family and the general public, creating a healing environment that reflects dignity and care.”

While initial work is being funded with available resources, the IGP appealed to individuals, businesses, and the general public for support to ensure timely completion.
“We believe this project will not only improve access to quality healthcare for our officers and their families but also extend the lives and service of those who have dedicated themselves to protecting the nation,” he added.
