President John Dramani Mahama has announced the creation of a special fund to support the children of the eight people killed in the August 6 helicopter crash.
The fund, aimed at ensuring the long-term welfare of the victims’ dependents, will be officially launched on Friday, August 15, during a state funeral in their honour.
Speaking at the funeral rites of Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna one of the crash victims on Tuesday, President Mahama underscored the need to care for the bereaved families, particularly the young children left behind. He made special mention of the two-month-old baby of pilot Peter Bafemi, noting the deep personal toll of the tragedy.
“This fund is our way of showing solidarity and ensuring that the children who have been left behind by this national tragedy are not forgotten,” he said. “It is our responsibility to protect them from the financial and emotional burdens caused by this heartbreaking event.”
According to the presidency, the fund will cover education, healthcare, and basic living expenses for the affected children, providing stability in the aftermath of their loss.
