The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, on Saturday, August 10, led a delegation to console the families of 16 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana in Obogu, Asante Akyem South Municipality, who died in a fatal road accident.
The tragedy occurred on Monday, July 28, when a vehicle transporting congregants from the church’s annual gathering collided head-on with a fuel tanker at about 2:30 p.m. All 16 victims members of the church’s youth ministry died instantly, while four others sustained injuries. Survivors are currently receiving treatment, with church leaders reporting steady recovery.
During the visit, the NDC presented GH₵10,000 to the Saviour Church and GH₵50,000 to the affected families to help cover funeral and related expenses.
The Obogu community remains in deep mourning, with some families grieving multiple losses. Addressing the congregation, Mr. Nketia said the party felt compelled to reach out after learning of the incident through its liaison officer with the church.
“The pain is unbearable, especially for those who have lost two or three children,” he said, assuring the community of the NDC’s prayers and solidarity.
The church leadership expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting that such support helps ease the burden on grieving families.
