President John Dramani Mahama has assured Nigerian nationals living in Ghana and the Nigerian

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Nigerian nationals living in Ghana and the Nigerian government that there are no plans to deport Nigerians en masse, following concerns triggered by a resurfaced video.

The President gave the assurance during a meeting with a special envoy sent by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The President gave the assurance during a meeting with a special envoy sent by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The visit came in response to public anxiety over an old 2013 video that recently went viral, in which a man described as an “Igbo king” spoke about acquiring land in Ghana to establish a kingdom. The video was widely misinterpreted as a current development.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s.

Describing the situation as “a bit of a storm in a teacup,” President Mahama

Describing the situation as “a bit of a storm in a teacup,” President Mahama said the claims made in the video have no legal basis under Ghanaian law. He emphasized that the establishment of traditional councils is strictly regulated and cannot be unilaterally declared by foreign nationals.“There is no cause for alarm. Ghana is a law-abiding country, and we remain fully committed to the ECOWAS protocol on the free movement of people,” he said. “Nigerians living in Ghana have nothing to fear.”

History Between Ghana And Nigeria

Mahama also reflected on the shared history between Ghana and Nigeria, noting that both countries had experienced unfortunate episodes of mass deportation Ghana in the 1960s and Nigeria in the 1980s.“I believe we’ve learned from those events. They belong to a regrettable chapter in our shared past, and we must never repeat them,” he added. “Ghana and Nigeria are like siblings. Our futures are connected, and we must work together, not against each other.”

The President’s comments were aimed at calming tensions and reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to regional integration, unity, and peaceful coexistence within the West African sub-region.
