President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the Government of Ghana have expressed deep gratitude to Ghanaians and the international community for the overwhelming support shown following the tragic military helicopter crash of August 6 that claimed eight lives.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Monday, August 18, 2025, the President acknowledged the solidarity, condolences, and assistance extended to the bereaved families and the state during the period of mourning.
“We are deeply moved by the outpouring of solidarity shown across the nation and beyond,” the statement read. “Your messages of sympathy, your attendance at the state funeral, your practical assistance, and the many acts of kindness extended to the bereaved families have provided great consolation in this time of sorrow.”
The government also paid tribute to individuals and organizations that worked tirelessly to ensure the victims were given a dignified Ghanaian burial. “This was a fitting farewell that honours their memory and reflects the compassion of our people,” the statement added.
Following the conclusion of the state funeral, the Chief of Staff directed that flags at all public buildings, which had been flown at half-mast, be restored to full mast with immediate effect.
The Presidency called for national unity as Ghana continues its development agenda under the theme #ResettingGhana. “As we return to the duties of building the Ghana we want, let us remain united in prayer, comfort one another, and continue to support the families affected by this tragedy,” it said.
The government concluded with a prayer for the departed: “May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
